Howard Norman Elementary School
Norman Elementary School is the 5th rendition of the elementary school prototype for the district. The school focuses heavily on the community’s new urbanist concepts, creating a walkable and bike-friendly layout of the campus which promotes healthier, more active transportation for students. Additionally, the school’s design includes sustainable features, allowing the school to use 50% less electricity, 22% less potable water and has fewer bus routes than the other 5 elementary schools in the District. During the planning phases, the team extracted what was learned from the past elementary school prototypes. The alterations were inspired by the lessons learned, new teaching strategies and the unique qualities of the site. The school incorporates flexible technology to enhance learning resources for all grade levels.
