Good Samaritan Veterans Outreach and Transition Center

Good Samaritan Veterans Outreach and Transition Center at St. Philip’s College

Overview

The Good Samaritan Veterans Outreach and Transition Center is intended to provide assistance to Veterans in their transition from military to civilian life through training and educational services. The City of San Antonio is providing funding to acquire and renovate the 1918 historic building that was once the Good Samaritan Hospital. Due to seriously damaged, non-compliant and potentially unsafe conditions, a majority of the building was demolished except for the exterior load-bearing walls. Additionally, the exterior cladding was also stripped down to the studs. The existing elements were reinforced and repaired or replaced as necessary to preserve the structural integrity of the building. Once preserved, the exterior finish was designed to be an exact replica of the original.
